HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Chris Fishburn's two-out bases loaded single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Southern Miss to a 15-14 win over Ole Miss, as the Golden Eagles rallied from a 13-3 deficit by scoring 12 runs in their final three at bats.
USM (6-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to cap the comeback. Josh Hoffpauir was hit by a Joel Lyons pitch to start the inning. A batter later, Dusty Haley drew a walk off of closer Justin Huisman, and Darren Welch and Chris Finnegan followed with back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game at 14-14.
Huisman then got DeQuincy Scott to hit a possible double play grounder to second, but Clint Farrar's throw to second pull shortstop Ryan Davis off the bag, allowing the Golden Eagles to load the bases with one out and set-up Fishburn's heroics a batter later.
Chet Batson (1-0) the last of five USM relievers was credited with the win, while Huisman (0-1) suffered the loss.
Ole Miss (8-3) starter Brett Young worked five innings in his first collegiate start, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits and one walk, and left the game with a 13-3 lead.
