OXFORD, Miss. - Joseph Liberto struck out a career-high seven batters as Ole Miss (13-6) pounded Southern Miss (10-9), 12-4 on Tuesday night. Liberto pitched seven innings to earn the win in his first career start, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks.

"I feel great about Joseph Liberto's performance," said Ole Miss head coach Pat Harrison. "He pitched against a very good-hitting USM team. It was a good demonstration of poise and good pitching on Joseph's part."

Burney Hutchinson had a two-run triple and later scored in the sixth inning to help the Rebels to a 5-1 lead. Ole Miss scored five more runs on five hits in the seventh to extend their lead to 10-2. Lance Jones highlighted the inning with a three-run home run, his second of the year.

Ben Mosely put Southern Miss on the board with a lead-off solo home run in the top of the first. The Golden Eagles' only other runs came in the seventh on a Chris Fishburn two-run single.

Brett Young finished out the game for the Rebels, giving up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings of work.

Stephen Castleman (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in five innings.

The win snapped Ole Miss' two-game home losing streak. It also marked Harrison's 99th victory with the Rebels. Harrison is looking to become the sixth coach in school history to win 100 games against Eastern Illinois, Wednesday at 2 p.m.
