Rebels Edge Arkansas State 4-3

OXFORD, Miss. - Lance Jones went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Justin Huisman recorded his eighth save of the season as Ole Miss edged Arkansas State 4-3 in a non-conference game Wednesday night at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
With the win, the Rebels concluded their six-game homestand with a 5-1 record, and improved to 22-14 overall on the season. Arkansas State fell to 17-17.
Arkansas State got on the board first in the third inning when Tommy Goforth scored on a RBI ground out by Nick Martin.
Lance Jones gave the Rebels the lead with a two-run triple to left center to highlight a three-run third inning. Jones then scored on a Jude Voltz sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1.
The Indians cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning when Goforth scored on a passed ball.
Craig Nugen gave Ole Miss an insurance run in the eighth with a one-out solo shot off Marty Mayfield. It was Nugen's fourth home run of the year.
Arkansas State put the go-ahead run on base in the ninth. Kyle Brunen hit a one-out single, and Ryan Corrigan drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Justin Huisman then came on in relief of Neil Hunt, and Goforth laced a single past third baseman Banks Robinson to score Brunen.
Huisman then coaxed Ryan Reynolds to hit in a game-ending double play to preserve the win.
Redshirt freshman Joseph Liberto (3-0) earned the win for the Rebels, giving up one run on two hits and striking out one in three innings pitched.
For the Indians, Gary Wilson (3-3) got the loss, pitching three innings and giving up three runs on six hits.
Goforth led the Indians in hitting, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Both teams recorded nine hits each.
Ole Miss will play its next eight games on the road, starting Friday with the first game of a three-game series at Mississippi State. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., in Starkville.
