No. 17 Baseball Narrowly Drops Series to No. 22 Arkansas On the Road

5/3/2026 | Baseball

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 17 Ole Miss Baseball (32-17, 12-12 SEC) took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth Sunday afternoon but could not hold on as No. 22 Arkansas (32-17, 13-11 SEC) walked it off for the series win.

Judd Utermark went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, the 48th of his career, tying the Ole Miss career home run record held by Kyle Gordon.

Owen Paino finished 2-for-3 with a three-run home run.

Taylor Rabe worked five innings and gave up just two earned runs with a career-high tying seven strikeouts.

The Razorbacks scratched across a run in the opening frame to take an early 1-0 lead, but Paino and the Rebels responded in the top of the second. Will Furniss opened the inning with a single and moved to second on an Arkansas error that allowed both him and Hayden Federico to reach.

After a strikeout from Collin Reuter, Paino hit the first pitch he saw high into the wind and over the fence in left field to make it 3-1 Ole Miss.

Rabe retired eight straight hitters from the end of the second inning to the first out of the fifth before giving up a solo home run that made it 3-2. He escaped the fifth and would leave the game in line for a win.

Arkansas tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with another home run, a 469-foot laser from Kuhio Aloy.

The two teams headed to the eighth inning tied at 3-3 until Utermark hit the second pitch of the inning over the fenced in straight-away center field to give Ole Miss a one-run lead.

Walker Hooks, who was injected into the game in the seventh inning, protected the lead in the eighth, and returned for the ninth, looking to lock down the win.

Nolan Souza battled with Hooks and reached on a single to right field and after another lengthy battle with Christian Turner, Turner hit a walk-off home run to right center that gave Arkansas the 5-4 win.

The Rebels will return home to Oxford and host Texas A&M for their final home series next weekend.
