Rebel Netter Duo Advances To Second Round At NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. -- Ole Miss men's tennis players Vikrant Chadha and James Shortall outlasted Salil Seshadri and Akran Zaman of Columbia 7-6(8), 6-7(5), 7-6 to advance to the second round at the NCAA Doubles Championships Thursday.

The duo, who improved to 15-9 on the year, will now face Baylor's David Hodge and Mark Williams in the second round. Hodge and Williams are seeded No. 5-8. If Chadha and Shortall can win and advance to the quarterfinals, they will earn All-America honors.

In second round singles action, freshman Alexander Hartman dropped a three-set decision to Stanford's K.J. Hippensteel. Hartman won the first set 6-3 and Hippensteel claimed the second set 6-3. The Cardinal got the break to go ahead 3-1 early in the third set and went on to win 6-4.

In his first season, Hartman posted a 33-18 overall record to lead the Rebels, was named to the All-SEC second team and received the ITA Region III Player-to-Watch Award. He has been nationally-ranked all year and is currently the second highest ranked freshman at No. 26 in the nation.
