Bartlett Ties For 24th At NCAA Championships

OPELIKA, Ala. - Ole Miss golfer Jon Bartlett shot a final-round 70 Saturday to tie for 24th at the NCAA Championships at the Grand National Golf Club's par 72, 7,003-yard Lake Course.
Bartlett, who competed as an individual in the championships, carded rounds of 75-66-73-70 to tie with five others with a four-under-par 284. Bartlett's second-round 66 was a career low and moved him up 83 spots to make the cut.
Oklahoma State junior Charles Howell earned medalist honors with a 67-66-63-69--265 to close out 23 under par. Howell's Cowboys earned team national championship honors by defeating Georgia Tech in a one-hole playoff. OSU finished the tournament 36 under par with a four-round 1,116.
Bartlett, a senior from Ocala, Fla., ends his Ole Miss career among the school's leaders in a number of statistical categories. Bartlett transferred from Central Alabama Community College prior to the 1998-99 season, when he finished second on the team and 14th in the SEC in stroke average.
This year, Bartlett posted a 71.77 average, the third lowest in school history and among the top four in the conference. A 2000 All-SEC first team selection, Bartlett turned in 11 straight top 20 finishes this season with eight in the top 10.
