OXFORD, Miss. - Trips to Vermont and California highlight the Ole Miss women's basketball 2000-01 schedule. The Lady Rebels have had one of the nation's toughest schedules the last three years and this season will be no different featuring 14 teams that went to postseason play including eight NCAA Tournament teams.
"Our schedule again, is going to rank right up there with the toughest in the country," Aldy said. "That's something that we wanted to happen. We could guarantee eight or 10 wins prior to the SEC schedule, but that's not what this kind of schedule or last year's guarantees you. Hopefully it will help us accomplish what we want to when we get into league play. In addition, it allows us to see certain parts of the country, and at the same time, go play quality opponents."
Ole Miss will tip off the 2000-01 season on Nov. 17 at the Vermont Howard Bank Classic, which includes Vermont (2000 NCAA participant ), Radford and Lafayette. Following that, the Lady Rebels return home to host the University of West Alabama (Nov. 21). Rounding out the month of November, Ole Miss travels to Little Rock, Ark., (Nov. 28) for a game against Arkansas-Little Rock.
The Lady Rebels will play five home games in December beginning with Southeastern Louisiana on Dec. 1. After a road game at Murray State (Dec. 3), the Lady Rebels will host Middle Tennessee State (Dec. 6), Arkansas State (Dec. 14) and Northern Arizona (Dec. 17), before heading to the Beach Classic (Dec. 19-20) in Long Beach, Calif.
Ole Miss will face 2000 WNIT participant Wichita State in the first round of the Beach Classic. Other participants include host Long Beach State, who also made the WNIT last season, and Indiana of the Big-10 Conference.
Following a short break for the holidays, the Lady Rebels will host NCAA participant Tennessee Tech on New Year's Eve day, before getting into the SEC schedule. Three of the Lady Rebel's first five conference games will be on the road. They open SEC play at Vanderbilt on Jan. 7. After a Jan. 11 home date with Mississippi State, the Lady Rebels host Belmont (Jan. 16) in their final non-conference action.
Other home games in the SEC include LSU, who reached the Elite Eight last year (Jan. 21), Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Auburn.
