TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Led by freshman Tywanna Inmon's career-high 22 points, the Ole Miss Lady Rebels got their first conference win of the season with a 65-57 win over Alabama at Coleman Coliseum.
This was the first time that Ole Miss has defeated the Crimson Tide since 1995-96 season and the first time since 1990-91 that they have won in Tuscaloosa. This win was also Ole Miss' first SEC road win since the 1998-99 season.
In addition to Inmon's 22 points, she also grabbed eight rebounds in the Lady Rebels win. She was 7-of-14 shooting and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Becky Myatt had 12 points, 10 of those came in the second half. Huntsville,Ala. native Von Kirk chipped in nine points.
"Both teams have a history of playing each other hard and that is what they did tonight," said Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy. "Our kids really battled in the second half, and Tywanna (Inmon) made some big baskets in the second half. The difference in the game was rebounding. We got boards in the second half when we needed them and the shots started falling for us."
Ole Miss (13-3, 1-2) won the battle of the boards by outrebounding the Crimson Tide 41- 31. Ole Miss shot 37 percent for the game, while Alabama (13-4, 1-3) shot 40 percent from the field. The Lady Rebels shot 76 percent from the free-throw line and Alabama shot 63 percent from the charity stripe.
At the 8:07 mark of the first half, Ole Miss led 23-18 and would not score another field goal in the half. Alabama went to the locker room with a 30-27 halftime lead.
Ole Miss took the lead for good at the 4:51 mark on an Inmon jumper to put the Lady Rebels up 43-42. They increased their lead to 12 at the 1:17 mark 57-45.
The Lady Rebels will be back in action when they host LSU on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
