Box Score

ATHENS. Ga. - The cold-shooting Ole Miss women's basketball team fell to fifth-ranked Georgia, 74-51, on Thursday night. Sophomore forward Kayla Madewell came off the bench to spark Ole Miss with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, but it was not enough as the Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Rebels to 28.3 percent shooting from the field and handed Ole Miss their second-straight loss.

The Lady Rebels (13-5, 1-4) made a game of it early, and trailed by only four points with 3:42 remaining in the first half. Georgia (17-3, 5-1) then went on an 11-3 run to close out the half and take a 12-point lead to the break.

Ole Miss cut the halftime lead to eight, nearly five minutes into the second period behind two Becky Myatt three-point shots, but was then held without a field goal for the next 12 minutes.

The Lady Bulldogs scored the next 10 points and did not let the lead drop to less than 16 points from there on out. After Myatt's goal, the Lady Rebels did not score another basket until the 3:14 mark when Kayla Madewell hit a short jumper. At that point, Georgia led 72-44.

Ole Miss was led by Madewell's 11 points off the bench. Myatt scored 10 points and Von Kirk and Sherika Wright each added eight points for the Lady Rebels. TaShondrea Moton led Ole Miss with nine rebounds and Wright collected four assists.

Georgia forward Christi Thomas led all scorers with 25 points. Thomas made 9-of-12 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line and also added seven rebounds. Kelly Miller scored 20 points for the Lady Bulldogs and dished out six assists.

Ole Miss hit 17-of-60 shots from the field, including 31 percent from the three-point line. The Lady Rebels made 8-of-12 free throws and committed 17 turnovers.

Georgia made 48.3 percent of their shots, but made only 4-of-14 three pointers. The Lady Bulldogs made 14-of-17 free throws and out-rebounded Ole Miss 43-34. The Lady Bulldogs also held a 15-4 advantage over the Lady Rebels in points scored off turnovers.

Ole Miss will return to action on Sunday, January 28, when the host Alabama. Game time is set for 2 p.m., at Tad Smith Coliseum.
