OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss Head Baseball Coach Mike Bianco announced Sunday that outfielder Drew Robinson, of Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., and shortstop Shawn Yarbrough, of John A. Logan (IL) College, signed national letters of intent during the early fall signing period to play baseball for the Rebels.
Robinson, 5-feet-10, 160 pounds, hit .407 with 22 doubles and 28 runs batted in last spring for Oak Grove. In addition, he stole 32 bases to help his team finish as the South 4A runner-up in Mississippi. Robinson is also coming off a successful football season in which he caught 47 passes for 800 yards as a receiver.
"It's been our goal to sign a center fielder," Bianco said. "He fills our need in that area. He can run well and is also very good offensively. Drew is very athletic as he had an outstanding football season this past fall, but he will only play baseball at Ole Miss."
Yarbrough, 6-feet-1, 190 pounds, earned all-conference and All-Region 24 honors last spring as a freshman for John A. Logan College. He hit 18 home runs to set a new school single-season record and rank sixth nationally. Yarbrough also posted a .347 batting average with 14 doubles, four triples and 48 runs batted in.
"Shawn is a very talented player," Bianco said. "He set a school record last season for home runs and ranked among the national leaders in the junior college ranks."
The Rebels finished 39-23-1 last season in their first under Bianco, and advanced to an NCAA Regional. Ole Miss' recruiting class last year was rated No. 6 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball and No. 10 by Baseball America.
