STARKVILLE, Miss. - Led by Tywanna Inmon's third career double-double, the Ole Miss Lady Rebels defeated Mississippi State, 74-57, Thursday. The Lady Rebel win avenged a 60-55 Mississippi State victory on Jan. 11 in Oxford.
Inmon scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Rebels. Becky Myatt added 13 points for the Lady Rebels and was 3-of-6 from three-point range. Von Kirk had 10 points and seven rebounds on the night, and TaShondrea Moton chipped in 10 points in the Lady Rebel win.
The Ole Miss (14-6, 2-5) victory snaps a five-game winning streak in the series for Mississippi State (10-10, 1-8), dating back to the 1998-99 season. This win also snapped a three- game Ole Miss losing streak in Starkville.
After trailing 31-29 at the half, Ole Miss would take the lead for good at the 14:21 mark of the second half when Myatt hit a three-pointer to break a 40-40 tie. Myatt's three-pointer would spark an 11-0 Ole Miss run to give the Lady Rebels a 51-40 lead with 12:41 to go. Mississippi State would cut the lead to five at 58-53, on a Meadow Overstreet three-pointer with 6:14 left. Ole Miss would then outscore the Lady Bulldogs 16-4 to rest of the way.
"We knew coming in that both teams had their backs against the wall," said Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy. "We played solid in the second-half and that was the difference in the game. We played our best at a very critical time in the season for us. Tywanna (Inmon) played well for us tonight, and Becky (Myatt) hit some key shots for us in the second half."
Ole Miss outrebounded Mississippi State 37-31. The Lady Rebels shot 46 percent from the field on 25-of-54 shooting, while Mississippi State shot 39 percent on 22-of-57 shooting. Ole Miss was 15-of-22 from the free-throw line, while the Lady Bulldogs made 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Mississippi State's LaToya Thomas led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Jennifer Fambrough had 15 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Ole Miss will be back in action on Sunday when they host South Carolina. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
