Rebels Sweep Day One of Ole Miss Softball Classic

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss swept the first day of the Ole Miss Softball Classic, defeating Nicholls State, 4-1, and Tennessee-Martin, 2-1, Saturday at Ole Miss Softball Classic.
After being no-hit for three innings, the Rebels (3-5) posted a four-run fourth against NSU, highlighted by freshman catcher Jennifer Poore's two-run double. Senior Jennifer Hughes (1-2) allowed six hits and struckout eight in the complete game win.
For the Lady Colonels (1-1), Sarah Eads batted 3-for-3, as Nicholls outhit Ole Miss 6-3 in the game. Tracy Fryer took the loss in her first start of the year.
Lindsay Price (2-2) earned her second win of the season in the victory over Tennessee-Martin. The sophomore from Terry, Miss., limited the Skyhawks (0-2) to four hits and no earned runs over the full seven innings.
With the game scoreless in the sixth, Jamie Cummings leadoff with a double and was later driven in by Holly Burris, who was 3-for-5 in the doubleheader. Amanda Lehotak later scored on a wild pitch, and the Rebels held off a seventh-inning flury by UTM for the one-run win.
In the early game, Nicholls State's Duffi Matherne struck out seven and allowed only one run in NSU's 3-1 victory over Tennessee-Martin. Molly McKinney suffered the loss in both teams' season-opener.
The Ole Miss Softball Classic wraps up Sunday with Nicholls and Martin beginning play at 11 a.m. (CT). Ole Miss faces the Lady Colonels at 1 p.m., and the Skyhawks at 3.
