Ole Miss Loses Home Finale To Auburn, 59-48

OXFORD, Miss. - Senior day at Tad Smith Coliseum didn't turn out like the Lady Rebels wanted, as Ole Miss lost its home finale to Auburn, 59-48, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Lady Rebels dropped to 15-10 overall and 3-9 in the SEC, while Auburn improved to 16-10 and 4-8 in league play.
Tasha Hamilton led Auburn with 18 points on 6-of-15 from the floor and also tied her career-high with 13 rebounds. She dished out four assists and had two steals in the win. Lori Nero added 10 points and six rebounds for the Tigers.
"Auburn was picked to finish high in the conference, and they are a very talented team, who played a little bit better than we did," head coach Ron Aldy said. "It's disappointing that will all the emotion we had from it being senior day, that we didn't come out with any more intensity or effort than we showed. We didn't have anyone step up and be a leader or make the shots."
Auburn jumped out to a 6-0 lead and led 8-4 before Takela Corbitt hit the first of her four threes, to make it 8-7 at the 15:22 mark. The Tigers would go on an 8-1 run to go up by eight (16-8) at the 11:59 mark.
Ole Miss stayed within striking distance the first half, and had it to 22-19 with 1:10 to go on a three-pointer by freshman Tenisha Gist, who drew her second career start. Auburn's LaRita Spencer sank a three-pointer as time ran out in the first half to make it 25-19 Tigers.
Auburn went on a 9-0 run to open the second half and built a 15-point lead (34-19) at the 16:30 mark, on a three-pointer and steal by Hamilton and a lay-up from Nero. Ole Miss cut it to six, 34-28, with 13:06 left in the game, but the Tigers answered scoring five straight points to go back up by 11 (41-30) with 10:44 left in the game.
The Lady Rebels wouldn't quit and after Becky Myatt and Corbitt sank back-to-back three-pointers with eight minutes to go, and Gist made two free-throws, it was 43-40 Auburn with 5:22 remaining in the game. But, Ole Miss couldn't get any closer.
Inmon led the Lady Rebels with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Corbitt finished with a season-high 12 points. She also had three rebounds, one assist and two steals for the Lady Rebels.
Ole Miss shot 27.1 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent from behind the arc scoring a season-low 48 points. Auburn shot 35.2 percent and 25.0 percent from the three-point line. The Tigers out-rebounded the Lady Rebels 41-35.
The Lady Rebels will conclude the regular season on the road at Kentucky, Thursday with a 6:00 p.m. CST, game and then they will travel to Fayetteville Saturday for game with the Lady Razorbacks.
