OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with Mississippi State Tuesday, 2-1 and 7-5, at Ole Miss Softball Complex. The finale of the three-game set is Wednesday at 5 p.m. (CT).

Game two of the twin bill lasted 11 innings, tying the Ole Miss record for longest game. The 2:53-minute affair saw the Rebels (15-21, 2-6 SEC) jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Holly Burris, who hit 3-for-6 in the doubleheader, put Ole Miss on the board with a two-run double, and Jamie Cummings followed with an RBI-sacrifice fly that scored Jessica Hamilton. Burris then reached home on a Bulldog error to give the Rebels a lead that would stand until the seventh inning.

MSU (19-16, 7-4 SEC) picked up a pair of runs on a UM throwing error in the third inning, and notched two more in the seventh on a Kellie Wilkerson two-run double that would send the game to extra innings at 4-4. Wilkerson was 5-for-8 with four RBI in the twin bill.

State and Ole Miss would trade runs in the 10th inning - the Bulldogs off a passed ball and the Rebels off a Jennifer Poore RBI-double. However, Mississippi State would seize the lead for good in the 11th, taking advantage of three Ole Miss errors to score two runs.

Sophomore Lindsay Price (5-6), who also pitched the Rebels' last 11-inning game, went the distance in the loss, tossing 156 pitches and scattering nine hits. MSU used five pitchers with Wilkerson (4-0) earning the win in relief and Jennifer Pursell collecting her third save of the year.

Two Wilkerson solo homers were the difference in the early game. Ole Miss cut the lead to one in the fifth inning when Burris doubled and later scored on a Kristi DiMarco RBI-single.

State made the lead stand however behind Pursell (8-8), who allowed four hits over six innings, and Wilkerson, who hurled a perfect seventh for her fifth save. Jennifer Hughes (7-8) limited the Bulldogs to six hits in the complete-game loss.
