Rebels' Sterbens dreamed of SEC play

Chad Sterbens grew up in the shadows of Anaheim Stadium. He could leave his home, take a short drive and walk through the turnstiles to cheer on his beloved Angels about seven minutes later. But Sterbens' baseball thoughts often ranged far from home. This Californian wanted to play college baseball in the Southeastern Conference, and that dream came true when he signed a scholarship with Ole Miss in October of 1999.

Rebels Rising Fast Under New Regime

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Mike Bianco knows the first question before he's even asked. ``Let me guess. `Are you surprised?''' says Mississippi's first-year coach. Bianco says no, he's really not shocked that Ole Miss, expected to be an also-ran in the rough-and-tumble Southeastern Conference, is sporting a gaudy 24-8 record.

Rebels pitcher wants teammates to know what it's like to go to CWS

Pete Montrenes knows firsthand the exuberant sensation of pitching in the College World Series. As a member of the Southern California team a year ago, the 6-foot-3, 206-pound right-hander pitched two-thirds of an inning of relief against LSU in Omaha. It's an experience, he sincerely notes, he'll always treasure. "It's unbelievable," Montrenes said. "I can't put into words what it is like to pitch in Omaha. From the fans, to the stadium, to the hotels, it just doesn't get any better.
