VANCOUVER - DAY 1
While my former classmates continue to dream about leaving the country, here I sit on an American Airline airplane with the University of Mississippi ball club traveling thousands of miles to Vancouver, Canada. What a great opportunity! As always, my teammates and I look forward to the experience and challenge. Our 10-day trip includes basketball games, sight-seeing, shopping, and of course each other's company. As the plane soars over state after state, I grow tired and anxious for our time of arrival in Canada to approach. My eyes are wide open and I haven't been able to sleep the whole trip. As a freshman in high school, classmates and I conversed about the perfect trip we planned to take our senior year. Throughout our high school career, we held on to that unlikely vacation dream we mapped out as freshmen. Upon graduating, our parents spend an arm and leg on senior dues, a car, a graduation party, and other college preparations and typical teenage needs. Then we realize that Hawaii, New York, or foreign country vacations are out of the question at the present time. In the back of our minds we continue to hold a place for that special trip we always wanted to take, as advertisements and movies remind us on a daily basis of how bad we still want to go. We think to ourselves, "Man, I would love to go there" or "That trip would be a dream come true", never thinking that we would ever actually make that trip until we retired at 55. Well here we are. More to come in the next diary. Until then. GO LADY REBELS!
