OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team will embark on a 10-day trip to Canada on May 12-21 with the Basketball Travelers, Inc. The Lady Rebels' tour will take them to Vancouver and Victoria with various stops along the way.

"This trip provides us an opportunity to spend time with our returnees," head coach Ron Aldy said. "It will help us grow and come together as a team, as we look toward next year. The most important aspect of this trip will be bonding as a team and spending quality time together not only on the court, but away from basketball."

The Lady Rebels will begin their trip in Vancouver on May 12. They will tour Vancouver on the morning of May 13, before taking on the British Columbia Select Under 19's that night. Ole Miss will play the BC team again on Monday night, after a visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain during the day.

The third day includes an all day trip to Whistler, BC to visit the world famous resort city about two hours from Vancouver. May 16 and 17, the Lady Rebels will play Simon Fraser University. During their last two days in Vancouver, the team will enjoy time on their own in the city for shopping and sightseeing.

Friday, May 18, the Lady Rebels will take a BC Ferry to Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island, where they will board a bus to Victoria for a four-day stay. The team will play two games against the Victoria All-Stars Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19. Sightseeing in Victoria includes the Royal BC Museum, Craigdarroch Castle and the Parliament Building. The Lady Rebels will also visit the Butchart Gardens on Sunday before heading back to Vancouver Monday for the flight home.

"The educational experiences that this trip offers are invaluable," Aldy said. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the players and coaches, and we are excited about it. The competition is going to be very good.

The Lady Rebels began practicing last week for the upcoming trip, and Aldy is pleased with what he's seen so far from the team.

We are allowed 10 practices before we go, but because of exams, we've only practiced seven times," Aldy said. "Our conditioning has slipped a little bit from the end of the season, but we've seen some positives. We are looking forward to playing quality basketball teams and enjoying the beautiful sights in Canada."
