LADY REBEL GAME NOTES

LADY REBELS HOST LSU IN SECOND SEC HOME GAME: The Lady Rebels (9-7, 1-2) will be looking to hault a two-game losing streak with a win over LSU (8-6, 1-2) on Thursday. Ole Miss has lost back-to-back games for the first time this season after last week's losses at Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. UM and LSU will play twice this season, with the second game being played in Baton Rouge on Feb. 3.

ALDY IN FIFTH YEAR: Ron Aldy is in his fifth year (65-67 at Ole Miss, 148-109 all-time) at the helm of the Lady Rebel basketball program. After having achieved success on every level as either a head coach or an assistant coach, Aldy has used his knowledge and love of the game to bring the storied Ole Miss basketball program back to national prominence. He has dedicated himself to making Ole Miss a winner on and off the court. Aldy has guided the Lady Rebels to postseason play in two of his four seasons in Oxford. He led Ole Miss to a 17-13 overall record and a trip to the WNIT in 2000-01. Off the court, the Lady Rebels have made tremendous strides academically and in the community, as well. Ole Miss has placed six players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of the last three seasons. Since Aldy came to Oxford, all of his outgoing seniors have received their bachelor's degrees with the exception of one, who will graduate in December. Aldy and his staff have seen to it that the Lady Rebels get involved in the Oxford community. The Ole Miss players have helped build a community playground, visited the elderly and participated in many other activities in the area.

LADY REBELS ON SUPERTALK MISSISSIPPI 105.5 FM: This season the Lady Rebel games will be broadcast on WTNM Supertalk Mississippi (105.5 FM), with each broadcast beginning 15 minutes prior to the scheduled tip-off. Brad Daniels is in his first season as the "Voice of the Lady Rebels". Daniels currently serves as news and sports director at WQLJ-FM 93.7 in Oxford.

OLE MISS DROPS SECOND SEC GAME AT VANDERBILT: The Lady Rebels pulled out to a 15-10 lead 10 minutes into the game, but then ran into a brick wall. Ole Miss managed just two points the rest of the half and surrendered 20 en route to a 30-17 halftime deficit. The Lady Rebels never gave up, cutting the lead to 10 on two occasions, but never got over the hump. Amber Watts led Ole Miss in scoring with 10 points and TaShondrea Moton was the leading rebounder with seven boards in the 62-42 loss to the Commodores.

SCOUTING LSU: The Lady Tigers (8-6, 1-2) are coming off a 79-67 loss at Tennessee, however, LSU drilled Florida at home 84-59 prior to the UT loss. LSU is led in scoring by sophomore guard Doneeka Hodges with 15.5 points per game. Junior Aiysha Smith gets 14.6 points per game and freshman Scholanda Dorrell comes off the bench to provide 12.5 points per game. Smith leads the Lady Tigers in rebounding with 6.5 boards per contest. Sophomore Roneeka Hodges and junior Ke-Ke Tardy each add 6.1 rebounds per game. The Lady Tigers have lost six games on the season, all to ranked teams.

SERIES RECORD: This will be the 31st meeting between the two schools. The two teams met just once last season with the Lady Tigers winning 72-60 in Oxford. Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy is 1-3 versus LSU.

INJURY REPORT: Sophomore forward Tywanna Inmon is probable for Thursday's game versus LSU. Inmon has missed the Lady Rebels' last five games due to continued problems with a right ankle sprain. The 6-1 West Memphis, Ark., native was averaging 7.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Lady Rebels prior to her injury.

OLE MISS VS. LOUISIANA SCHOOLS: Ole Miss owns a 62-20 record (.756 winning percentage) versus schools from teams from Cajun country. The following is a list of schools from Louisiana that Ole Miss has played and their record against those schools.

OLE MISS-LSU TIES: The Lady Rebels do not have any natives of Louisiana on their roster, however, LSU does field one native Mississippian on their roster. Junior Ke-Ke Tardy hails from Jackson, Miss. Tardy was a Mississippi prep standout at Murrah High School in Jackson.

COMMON OPPONENTS: Outside of the SEC schedule, Ole Miss LSU do not share any common opponents. Both teams have played three SEC games to this point, but none of the same league teams have appeared on either teams' schedule as of yet.

HOME SWEET HOME: Ole Miss has played seven of their last nine games on the road including back-to-back conference road games last week versus Mississippi State and Vanderbilt. The Lady Rebels are 4-7 in road games so far this season. They seem to prefer the friendly confines of Tad Smith Coliseum, where they are 5-0 on the season. Ole Miss will hit the road again after Thursday's contest with LSU, when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., for Sunday's game with the Florida Gators.

LADY REBELS DOING IT IN THE CLASSROOM: Ole Miss is making good marks in the classroom as well as the basketball court as seven Lady Rebels earned honor roll status. Freshman Ally Kelly made a perfect 4.0 grade point average in her first semester at Ole Miss, earning a spot on the Chancellor's Honor Roll (3.75-4.0). Sophomore Kim Ufford made the Dean's Honor Roll (3.50-3.74). Freshman Carletta Brown, sophomores Tenisha Gist and Tywanna Inmon and seniors Von Kirk and TaShondrea Moton each earned a place on the U.M.A.A. Honor Roll (3.00-3.49). In addition to the players making good grades, managers Brittany Aldy and Tiffany Gray each made the Chancellor's Honor Roll and medical redshirt Shayla Day earned U.M.A.A. honors.

CLEANING THE GLASS: Ole Miss is out-rebounding its opponents by a margin of 4.0 rebounds per game. The Lady Rebels have won the rebounding battle in 10-of-16 contests so far this season and have out-rebounded their opponents by 10 or more four times, including a 28 rebound advantage over Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 30. Senior TaShondrea Moton is leading Ole Miss in rebounding with 6.1 boards per game and sophomore Tywanna Inmon averaged 5.8 rebounds per game prior to her injury. Four Ole Miss players average 4.8 or more rebounds per game in Moton, Inmon, freshman Amber Watts (5.4), senior Saundra Jackson (4.8).

GET THE GUNS OUT: Ole Miss has been in somewhat of a shooting slump as of late. In the Lady Rebels' last two games, they have made just 34-of-108 shots from the field. Ole Miss will keep shooting putting up the shots though, as the Lady Rebels will try to shoot themselves out of this slump.

MOTON ON A MISSION: Senior forward TaShondrea Moton has been on a mission as of late. Moton, who started the first game of the season, regained her starting position eight games ago and has made an immediate impact for the Lady Rebels. The 5-10 Prattville, Ala., native, has averaged 6.1 points and 8.5 rebounds since being reinserted into the starting line-up.

IF IT'S NOT WRIGHT, IT'S WRONG: Senior guard Sherika Wright has played stellar basketball during the first half of the season. The 5-6 Augusta, Ga., native is leading the team in assists with 82 and steals with 38 and is second in scoring with 11.4 points per game. She is also averaging 3.1 rebounds per game from her point guard position. She notched career-highs in both points and rebounds with her 21 points and seven boards in the Lady Rebels' recent loss to Temple.

PUTTING UP THE POINTS: Ole Miss is averaging 72.2 points per game so far this season. The Lady Rebels managed 68.6 points per game last season. Ole Miss has gone over the century mark twice during the first 14 games of the season. They defeated Arkansas-Little Rock, 101-57, and recently beat Fairleigh Dickinson, 105-46. The 59-point victory over Fairleigh Dickinson was the third largest margin of victory in the history of the Lady Rebel program.

SPREADING THE WEALTH: The Lady Rebels are getting solid production from a number of players. Seven players are averaging more than five points per game. Carletta Brown (5.1), Amber Watts (6.1), Tywanna Inmon (7.6), Saundra Jackson (8.6), Von Kirk (10.0), Sherika Wright (11.4) and Ally Kelly (11.6) are all capable scorers, making it difficult for opposing defenses to know who to guard. Six of the seven players have led the team in scoring.

LADY REBELS CAPTURE GRAN TREE THANKSGIVING CLASSIC TITLE: Ole Miss defeated Montana State, 66-59, and UW-Milwuakee, 74-57, to claim the 2001 Gran Tree Thanksgiving Classic title. The Lady Rebels used a balanced scoring attack in the tournament as five different players scored in double figures over the weekend. Senior Von Kirk was named MVP of the tournament and freshman Ally Kelly joined Kirk on the All-Tournament team. In addition to playing in the tournament, the Ole Miss team also took in the sights of the beautiful state of Montana. The Lady Rebels spent Thanksgiving Day at Big Sky ski resort.

OLE MISS SUCCESSFUL IN REGULAR SEASON TOURNAMENTS: Ole Miss owns a 111-28 record in regular season tournaments. The Lady Rebels have won 37 tournament titles, including the 2001 Gran Tree Thanksgiving Classic. The Lady Rebels defeated Montana State and UW-Milwaukee to claim the title last weekend.

KIRK FOR MVP: Senior Von Kirk was named Most Valuable Player of the Gran Tree Thanksgiving Classic last weekend. Kirk averaged 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals a game during the two-day tournament. The honor was Kirk's first MVP award of a regular-season tournament. It was her second time to earn All-Tournament honors, though as she was named to the Howard Bank Classic All-Tournament team last season.

KIRK MOVING UP THE CHARTS: Lady Rebel senior Von Kirk is moving up the Ole Miss charts in three-point shooting. Kirk, in just over two years, has made 113 three pointers, good for fourth-place on the career Lady Rebel chart. She needs 26 more three-pointers to pass Jackie Martin on the chart. Becky Myatt is on top of the chart with 232 three point baskets.

JACKSON TAKING IT TO THE BANK: Senior center Saundra Jackson is making good on most of her field goals this year. Jackson has made 55-of-101 shots from the field so far this season, good for 54.5 percent. The Lady Rebel record for field goal percentage for a season is 60.4 percent by Eugenia Conner during the 1982-83 season. Jackson's current field goal percentage would rank fourth on the Ole Miss chart for field goal percentage for a season.

STARTERS ALL AROUND: Through 16 games this season, Ole Miss has used four different starting lineups. Senior guard Sherika Wright is the lone mainstay, while freshman guard Ally Kelly, senior guard Von Kirk and freshman center Amber Watts have all started 15-of-16 games. Senior forward TaShondrea Moton has started nine games, sophomore forward Tywanna Inmon has started eight games and senior center Saundra Jackson has gotten the nod in one contest. The following are Ole Miss' starting lineups and the records they have produced.

Wright, Kirk, Moton, Inmon, Jackson 0-1Wright, Kelly, Henley, Inmon, Watts 1-0Wright, Kelly, Kirk, Inmon, Watts 4-2Wright, Kelly, Kirk, Moton, Watts 4-4

STREAK STILL ALIVE: Ole Miss made four threes in the loss to Vanderbilt. They have now hit at least one three-pointer in 220 consecutive games. The NCAA record for consecutive games with at least one three-pointer is held by Louisville, who has hit a three-pointer in 302 straight games, dating back to 1991.

TAKE IT AWAY: The Lady Rebels recorded 28 steals against UALR on Nov. 27, led by freshman guard Ally Kelly's seven thefts. Five players recorded three or more steals in the contest and 12 of 13 players that played recorded at least one steal. The 28 steals ranks as the second best in a single game in Ole Miss history. The Lady Rebels have recorded 145 steals on the season, good for 12 per game which ranks fourth in the SEC. See page six for a boxscore from the game.

MACHINE GUN KELLY: Ole Miss freshman Ally Kelly has been impressive in her first season of college basketball. Kelly is currently leading Ole Miss in scoring with an 11.6 points per game average. She was named to the All-Tournament team at the Gran Tree Thanksgiving Classic. She has led Ole Miss in scoring four times this season with 15 points in the opening loss to Tennesse Tech, 19 points in the win against UW-Milwaukee, 13 points against Middle Tennessee and 12 points in the loss to South Alabama. Kelly is also averaging nearly two steals per game.

BLOCK PARTY: Lady Rebel freshman forward/center Amber Watts is quickly becoming a defensive force in the paint. Watts, who stands 6-3, has collected an impressive 40 blocks in her first 16 collegiate games. The Utica, Miss., native is ranked 15th in the NCAA in blocks per game and is fourth in the SEC, blocking 2.50 shots per contest. With Watts and senior Saundra Jackson manning the middle Ole Miss has recoreded 65 blocks in their first 16 games after only getting 38 blocks all of last season.

MOST WINS UNDER ALDY: Four starters and nine letterwinners return from the 2000-01 team that recorded 17 wins. The 17 victories are the most wins by a Lady Rebel team under Coach Ron Aldy. The 1998-99 team finished 15-13 and made the WNIT. The 17 wins in a season are also the most wins since the 1995-96 season, when Ole Miss went 18-11 and made the NCAA Tournament.

DEPTH A PLENTY: Ole Miss is developing some quality depth as nine players are averaging double-digits in minutes. Sherika Wright leads the Lady Rebels with minutes per game, as she is on the floor 28.8 minutes per game. Ally Kelly and Von Kirk are close behind with 27.8 and 26.9 minutes per game respectively. Amber Watts (20.0), and TaShondrea Moton (20.4) are each getting over 20 minutes per game. Tywanna Inmon (19.2), Saundra Jackson (19.0), Carletta Brown (13.4) Tenisha Gist (13.3) all average more than 10 minutes per game. Kayla Madwell is close behind with a 9.0 minutes per game average and Leah Henley is getting 8.8 minutes per game.

IMPRESSIVE OUTSIDE THE SEC: The Lady Rebels have compiled an impressive record outside the Southeastern Conference in regular-season play. Ole Miss owns a 141-34 record (.806 winning percentage) versus non-conference opponents since 1990. The Lady Rebels' best non-conference record during that time came during the 1991-92 SEC Championship season, as they compiled a 15-1 mark versus non-conference foes. The Lady Rebels' were nearly as good last season as they went 12-1 against non-SEC challengers. The Lady Rebels have an overall 50-8 record (.862 winning percentage) versus the non-conference opponents on this year's slate.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION: Ole Miss will appear on television four times this year. The Sunshine Network will air Ole Miss' game at Florida on Jan. 20, 2002. FoxSportsNetSouth will televise the Lady Rebels' game against Mississippi State on Jan. 27 in Tad Smith Coliseum and Comcast Sports Southeast will televise the Lady Rebels' final home game of the season versus Tennessee on Feb. 21. Ole Miss dropped a 62-42 decision to Vanderbilt, a game that was televised on Comcast Sports Southeast.

DOWELL, MYATT JOIN LADY REBEL STAFF: During the offseason, Head Coach Ron Aldy added two people to the Lady Rebel staff. Kim Dowell joined the program as an assistant coach and Becky Myatt turned in her playing shoes for a clipboard as she is now a graduate administrative aide for Ole Miss. Dowell comes to Oxford from her alma mater, UT-Arlington, where she served as an assistant coach for the past five seasons.
