OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 5 nationally-ranked Ole Miss men's tennis team will open the dual match season Thursday, as they host Arkansas-Little Rock at 2:30 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Rebels are coming off the SEC Indoor Championships last weekend. Junior All-American Alex Hartman, ranked No. 21 in the nation, reached the quarterfinals. Ole Miss is also led by senior All-SEC performer Kristofer Stahlberg, who is ranked No. 51 in singles and sophomore Paul Ciorascu, who is rated No. 64.
Several newcomers have joined the team including transfer Claes Lindholm, who made his debut for the Rebels at the SEC Indoor last weekend. Lindholm went 19-6 as a freshman last year for the University of the Pacific. Also new this January, is Catalin Gard, a freshman from Romania.
This will also be the first dual match for UALR. The Trojans are led by senior Mariano Pettigrosso, who comes in ranked No. 28 after a successful fall campaign. He reached the round of 16 at the Omni Hotels Region IV Championships and posted five wins at the ITA All-American Championships including two wins over top 30 players.
Ole Miss defeated UALR 7-0 last year in Oxford on some strong singles play. The Rebels won every match in straight sets.
