Ole Miss Holds Steady, Takes Fifth At UCF Invitational

2/12/2002 | Women's Golf

Feb. 12, 2002

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Ole Miss women's golf team improved by nine strokes to hold steady and claim the fifth place spot at the UCF Invitational on Tuesday with a score of 313-304-617.

"Our first day score of 313 is not a bad score, but it is pretty average," said Ole Miss head coach Meghan Bolger. "It's a good start to the season considering it was a two round tournament and not a 54-hole tournament. If we had one more round I think we would have jumped up considering how much our score improved in the second round."

The Lady Rebels had three players finish in the top 20 as Kerrie Davis, Elizabeth Hoffman and Bernadette Luse all tied for the No. 17 spot. Davis competed as an individual and recorded a 79-74-153. Hoffman, a senior, recorded a 77-76-153 while Luse notched a 79-74-153 as well.

"Kerrie played well as a junior and I am looking forward to next week's outing with her," Bolger said. "Elizabeth (Hoffman) and Bernadette (Luse) played well for us, too. We are going to work with them on a couple of shots and get those better shots next time. All in all we played well, and I'm proud of the team."

Sophomore Teesha Ash fired a 76-79-155 to finish tied for the No. 23 spot, while freshman Nikki Hadd tied for the No. 31 spot with an 81-77-158 for the tournament. Redshirt freshman Jade Polonich, playing in her first collegiate tournament improved her second round score by 10 strokes to tie for the No. 43 spot.

The Lady Rebels will return to action at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational on Feb. 22-24.
