REBEL GAME NOTES
AT A GLANCE: No. 15 Ole Miss (20-7, 4-4 SEC) looks to sweep its third three-game series of the season, and its first SEC series, when the Rebels and the Kentucky Wildcats (11-14, 2-6 SEC) conclude their weekend series today at 12:30 p.m. (CST) at Cliff Hagan Stadium in Lexington, Ky. After Friday's game was postponed due to rain, Ole Miss swept a doubleheader on Saturday, winning 9-5 and 5-4. Freshman right-hander Alan Horne (0-1, 8.38 ERA) will take to the mound for the Rebels in search of his first career victory. Kentucky is expected to counter with sophomore right-hander Cory Hahn (2-3, 3.50 ERA). Today's game can be heard on stations along the Ole Miss Radio Network beginning at 12:15 p.m., with David Kellum and Gary Darby.
LAST TIME OUT: Burney Hutchinson hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to give Ole Miss a 3-2 lead, and Adam Yates escaped a two-out, bases loaded jam in the ninth to record his fourth save of the year and give the Rebels a 5-4 win in yesterday's nightcap. Ole Miss won game one 9-5 as J.R. Pickens shut down the Wildcats after allowing five runs in the first inning, and Seth Smith broke a 5-5 tie with a RBI single in the sixth.
MAYOR'S TROPHY TICKETS ON SALE: Tickets for Wednesday's Mayor's Trophy game versus Mississippi State in Jackson are currently on sale through phone orders only at the Smith-Wills Stadium Ticket Office. The number to call is (601) 362-2294. Prices are $10 for reserved seats and $6 for general admission. Only Visa and Mastercard is accepted.
IN THE POLLS: Ole Miss moved up one spot in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30 to No. 15, fell one spot to No. 18 in the Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Top 25, leaped five places to No. 19 in the Baseball America Top 25, and re-entered the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll at No. 17, after falling out of last week's poll.
REBELS VS. WILDCATS: Today's meeting is the 46th all-time between Ole Miss and Kentucky ... The Rebels lead the all-time series 26-18, dating back to 1925 ... The Wildcats entered the weekend having won the last two series between the team team, 2-1 in 2000 and 2-1 in 2001 ... Yesterday's sweep of the twinbill gave the Rebels their first series win since sweeping the Wildcats in Oxford during the 1999 season ... Prior to this weekend, the Rebels' last series win in Lexington was 1998, 2-1 ... Since 1996, Ole Miss has won 11 of the 20 meetings between the two teams ... Ole Miss is 15-6 all-time against Kentucky in Oxford and 11-12 in Lexington.
AFTER 27 GAMES LAST SEASON: The Rebels were 20-6-1 after 27 games last season ... Ole Miss was hitting .296 (268x905) with 50 doubles, 11 triples, 25 home runs and 158 RBIs ... The Rebels stole 18 bases in 28 attempts and grounded into 21 double plays ... They were outscoring their opponents 185-115 ... REBEL MISCELLANEOUS: Win today would equal the Rebels' longest winning streak of the season at six games, set twice previously from Feb. 15-23 and March 1-9 ... Ole Miss enters today's game having committed at least one error in 20 consecutive games, and have been charged with at least one in 26-of-27 games this season ... The Rebels are one win shy of equaling the most wins in the month of March in school history, set by the 1989 squad that went 15-6-1. Ole Miss enters today's game with a 14-5 record during the month ... Ole Miss is aiming for its first three-game SEC sweep since taking three games from Alabama last year in Oxford, March 23-25. It would be the Rebels' first SEC road sweep since last year at Auburn, March 16-18, and just their second taking all three in a series at Kentucky in 1986 ... Yesterday's doubleheader was the Rebels' first in SEC play since April 19, 1998 when they swept two seven-inning games from Vanderbilt in Oxford.
