Arkansas Clips No. 12 Ole Miss In Series Opener.

OXFORD, Miss. - Cody Clark broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run single in the sixth inning and senior right-hander Charlie Isaacson worked eight-plus inning to earn the win as Arkansas defeated No. 12 Ole Miss 5-4 in the opener of this weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference series, in front of 2,512 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. The win was the Razorbacks' 15th in the last 19 meetings against Ole Miss, dating back to 1996.
Isaacson (4-6) allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk, and struck out five in earning the win.
Kyler Pomeroy stalled an Ole Miss rally in the ninth to earn his third save. He entered the game after Clint Farrar's pinch-hit RBI single made it 5-3, and the Rebels having runners on the corners with no outs. Charlie Waite hit a sac fly to center to score Jonathan Swearingen to make it 5-4, but Pomery coaxed Chad Sterbens to ground to second and into a game-ending double play.
Pete Montrenes (8-5) suffered the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits and five walks, and struck out seven.
Bryce Morrison, Seth Smith and Matt Tolbert each recorded two hits as the Rebels out-hit the Razorbacks 11-6. Chad Sterbens went 1-for-4 with an infield single in the third to extend his SEC hitting streak to 25 games, and to a career-long 15 games overall.
Scott Bridges and Kirk McConnell both went 2-for-4 to combine for four of Arkansas' six hits. Clay Goodwin was 1-for-4 and hit a two-run home run in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.
Ole Miss took a 2-0 lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by Burney Hutchinson and a RBI single by Drew Rogers.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. Junior right-hander Gary Hogan, Jr., (3-6, 4.80) is scheduled to start for Arkansas against Ole Miss freshman right-hander Alan Horne (5-1, 3.83).
