Ole Miss' Clement Named Golf Coaches Association Academic All-America

OXFORD, Miss. - Tommy Clement, a senior on the Ole Miss men's golf team for the 2000-01 season, was named an Academic All-America selection by the Golf Coaches Association. Clement was one of 86 athletes honored across the nation.
"We are excited that Tommy earned this honor for his effort in the classroom," said head coach Woody Cowart. "Tommy has truly been a leader for this team on the course and in the classroom. He leads by example and has what it takes to get the job done as a student-athlete for a major university. He is the epitome of what a coach wants in a student-athlete."

Clement majored in Business at Ole Miss with a 3.23 GPA. He finished his senior season with the third best average on the team and recorded three top 20 finishes. The senior posted his best finish at the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate, where he finished in a tie for 13th. He fired a personal best and low-round of 69 at the Billy Hitchcock as well.
Clement, a native of Mobile, Ala., earned Academic All-SEC honors for the 1999, 2000 and 2001 seasons, and is the fourth Academic All-America selection for Cowart and the Rebels in three years. Three other Rebels earning the distinction include current assistant coach Haymes Snedeker (1999), Phil Caravia (2000, 2001) and Robert Dreyfus (2001). He also served as the men's golf team representative on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for three years.
Clement's accomplishments in the classroom and on the golf course are simply a continuation of his achievements from high school where he played on the golf team at St. Paul's Episcopal in Mobile, Ala. At St. Paul's, Clement lettered all four years and was named MVP three times.
