Volleyball Falls To South Carolina 3-0 On The Road

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Ole Miss volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (19-30, 16-30, 24-30) decision to South Carolina on the road Friday. The Lady Rebels will conclude their road trip with a 1 p.m. match against Kentucky Sunday in Lexington.
Ole Miss (2-14, 1-2) hit just .067, while South Carolina, after opening at .182 in the first game, finished strong to hit .342. No one finished in double digits in kills for the Lady Rebels. Junior outside hitter Elena Garcia posted eight kills and seven digs to lead the team. Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Refenes recorded seven kills and two blocks.
South Carolina's (8-7, 2-1) Nicole Miller finished with 12 kills on 18 attempts for a solid .611 hitting percentage. She also had four blocks. Lynae Vanden Hull added a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs and hit .444, while also tallying four blocks.
Ole Miss hit their worst percentage of the season in a game -.179 on their way to losing game one 30-19. The Lady Rebels had just three kills on 28 attempts in the game. South Carolina was paced by Miller and Vanden Hull, who each had four kills on six attempts.
The Lady Rebels fell behind early (9-3) in game two. Down 13-4, Ole Miss called its first timeout of the game. Trailing 17-9, the Lady Rebels rattled off four consecutive points to get within four (17-13). South Carolina answered winning the next three points to extend their lead back to seven (20-13) as Ole Miss used its final timeout of the game. A 10-3 run by the Gamecocks closed out the Lady Rebels 30-16.
Ole Miss started off better in game three as the two teams battled back and forth early. With South Carolina up 10-9, the Gamecocks won three straight points to take a 13-9 lead. With Ole Miss down 15-12, USC won four of the next five points to increase their lead to 19-13, forcing the Lady Rebels to call timeout. South Carolina would go on to win the game 30-24 and the match. The Lady Rebels hit .227 in game three.
