PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Cappie Pondexter scored 21 points and had eight assists to lead No. 16 Rutgers to a 65-50 victory over Mississippi on Sunday in the second round of the women's Preseason NIT.
Michelle Campbell added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Scarlet Knights (2-0), who will play the winner of Monday night's Michigan-Cincinnati game in the WNIT semifinals Wednesday night.
Genice Terry had 11 points to lead Mississippi (1-1).
Rutgers took advantage of the Lady Rebels' poor shooting in the first half to open a 15-4 lead nine minutes in. Mississippi did not make its first field goal until the 10:17 mark of the first half.
Rutgers held a double-digit lead until the final three minutes of the half, when Mississippi made a run to cut the lead to 29-24.
But Rutgers pushed the margin back to double figures early in the second half. The Lady Rebels got no closer than nine before Rutgers went to the foul line a handful of times to end it.
