Lady Rebels Pounce On Panthers 89-56

Genice Terry and Carletta Brown combined for 43 points as Ole Miss dismantled Birmingham Southern, 89-56, on Tuesday night. Terry and Brown combined for seven three-point baskets, and the Lady Rebels shot 59.4 percent in the first half to knock off the Panthers at Bill Battle Coliseum.
"I thought our guards did a nice job tonight," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "Both Genice and Carletta played well defensively and were also able to knock down their shots. We had a good night tonight, but the road just keeps getting tougher."
Ole Miss, who continues on to Western Kentucky after tonight's win, jumped out to an early 10-0 lead behind the hot shooting of Brown, Terry and center Amber Watts. Birmingham Southern managed to keep themselves in the game for most of the first half behind six three-point baskets, pulling within five at the 7:22 mark, but never got any closer.
Brown, who scored 17 first-half points, scored nine-straight in a span for the Lady Rebels, to help forge a 49-31 half time lead. Terry finished the half with 15 points and forward Armintie Price added nine points at the break.
Ole Miss continued to light it up in the second half, as Terry scored eight more points and Watts provided the Lady Rebels with an inside attack, scoring 10 second half points of her own. Ole Miss led by as many as 35 points in the second half, and also dominated BSC on the boards 47-30.
Terry led Ole Miss with a career-high 23 points, including a career-high five three-point baskets. She also collected four steals and four rebounds. Brown finished with 20 points off of 8-of-12 shooting from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. Brown also had three assists.
Price notched her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She also tallied six assists and four steals. Watts rounded out the double-figuring scoring for Ole Miss with 14 points. She also contributed eight rebounds and two blocks. Center Amber Terrell had eight points and forward Ellen Buchanan had six points, six rebounds and five steals.
Linsday Boyett led BSC with 12 points, all off of threes. Martina Knotkova had 11 points and April Walker finished with eight. Ricka Spears and Britni Ballard each had five rebounds to lead the Panthers.
Ole Miss finished the game shooting a season-high 51.5 percent from the field, making 35-of-68 from the field, including 8-of-14 from beyond the arc. The Lady Rebels also made 11-of-13 free throws. Ole Miss finished with 15 assists and 14 steals.
BSC made 20-of-62 shots from the field, good for 32.3 percent. The made 9-of-28 from three-point land and connected on 7-of-9 free throws. The Panthers tallied 15 assists and seven steals.
Ole Miss will play their fourth-straight road game on Thursday when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky., to take on Western Kentucky. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
