ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Off to a 2-0 start, the Ole Miss softball team next tries its luck at the Triple Crown Classic in St. Augustine, Fla. The Rebels open the tournament Friday with Kansas at 9:15 a.m. CST and Bethune-Cookman at 2:15 p.m.
Ole Miss faces event host UCF Saturday at 11 a.m. before beginning tournament play.
The Rebels opened the 2003 campaign Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Jackson State, manhandling the Lady Tigers 11-1 and 8-0. Brooke Turner, a sophomore from Southaven, sparked the UM offense, batting 4-for-5 in the twin bill while blasting only the second grand slam in school history in game one.
Sophomores DeDe Justice and Megan Kozar had three hits apiece, and Justice moved alone atop the Rebel career home run list with her 12th round-tripper wearing the Red and Blue.
The Ole Miss pitching staff also looked sharp, limiting JSU to only three hits on the day. Seniors Lindsay Price and Leslie Day both turned in scoreless starts and picked up the victories.
The Rebels were successful in their first two games for the second consecutive year. Last year Ole Miss began the season 4-0. That squad also posted a 3-2 mark at the Triple Crown Classic and finished fourth in the tourney.
This year's 12-team event, which is held at Treaty Park, also includes SEC foes Arkansas, Georgia and Tennessee.
