FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ole Miss softball pitcher Lindsay Price had her win streak snapped as the Rebels dropped the rubber match of its three-game series at Arkansas Thursday, 4-2. Arkansas took games two and three to win the series, which was the Southeastern Conference opener for Ole Miss.
Price, a senior from Terry, Miss., had been victorious in her last five starts but trailed 1-0 early after a second-inning, RBI-double by Nicole Deeter.
DeDe Justice continued her key hitting and put Ole Miss (9-13, 1-2 SEC) on top 2-1 in the third. With two outs and two runners on, Justice doubled to deep right-centerfield to plate Brooke Turner and Britte Hardy. Justice also ripped a two-out, two-run hit in game one that give the Rebels' a 3-2 victory.
The Lady 'Backs (13-13, 2-4 SEC) retook the lead for good in the fifth inning with a three-run, game-winning rally. Arkansas used a UM fielding error - the third of the game - and three hits, including a two-run single by Ruth Atkins.
Lady 'Back righthander Valanna Lyons (6-6) limited the Rebels to three hits in notching her second victory of the series.
Price (6-5) went the distance for her team-best ninth complete game in the loss. The five-game win streak tied the second-longest in school history.
Rebecca McIntire went 0-for-3 to end her hit streak at nine games. The freshman third baseman had notched at least one single in each game of the current road swing, of which the Rebels are 4-6.
Ole Miss continues SEC play and hits the final leg of the 12-day, 13-game road trip this weekend against the Kentucky Wildcats (8-13, 0-3 SEC) in Lexington. The Rebels match up with the Kats Saturday in a 2 p.m. ET doubleheader followed by Sunday's finale also at 2.
Ole Miss has been on the winning end of the all-time series with Kentucky, 13-3. The Rebels swept last year's three-game set in Oxford and have lost only one season series in 2001. The Wildcats will be looking to climb out of the SEC cellar as the league's lone 0-3 squad.
