THIS WEEKEND
Ole Miss (14-18, 3-6 SEC) continues an eight-game road swing this weekend with a Southeastern Conference series at Florida (24-10, 7-2 SEC). The Rebels are 5-4 over their last nine games and swept a doubleheader at UT-Martin on Wednesday. After dropping all three to Auburn last weekend, Ole Miss sits fourth in the SEC Western Division standings and eighth overall in the league. The Gators lead the all-time series 9-3, but the Rebels were the victors in last year's set, taking 2-of-3 in Oxford. Florida, who is tied for 25th in this week's USA Today/NFCA national poll, is the first ranked opponent for Ole Miss this season.

LAST TIME OUT
Ole Miss ripped three home runs on the day in sweeping a doubleheader at UT-Martin Wednesday, taking game one, 7-1, and game two, 2-1. DeDe Justice opened the barrage in the early game, planting the first pitch she saw of the day over the left field fence for a 2-0 first-inning lead. She batted 2-for-4 with her sixth homer. The third inning was Andrea Brahs' turn, as she blasted the first grand slam of her career. She finished 3-for-4 and was a double short of hitting for the cycle. Brooke Turner also tallied 3-for-4. Leslie Day hurled a four-hit complete game with one run allowed. Lindsay Price continued the strong Rebel pitching in the late game, limiting the Skyhawks to four hits with eight strikeouts in the one-run victory. With UM trailing 1-0 in the third inning, Desiree Layman ripped a solo home run for her second long ball of the year. The game would remain knotted until the top of the seventh when Brahs chased home the go-ahead run with a bunt-single. She finished the twin bill with five RBI.

SCOUTING FLORIDA
Florida has been one of the SEC's surprise teams in 2003, and enters the weekend second in the Eastern Division standings and third overall. Off to the best conference start in school history, the Gators have won all three of their league series thus far against Auburn, Kentucky and Arkansas. In addition, UF moved into the nation's top 25 this week for the first time since a No. 25 ranking in the final 2000 poll. Junior second baseman Mylin Prieto is the reigning SEC Player of the Week after totaling a .545 average with six RBI in last weekend's series win over the Lady 'Backs. Prieto has combined with freshman leftfielder Lindsey Cameron and senior third baseman Jenni Mossadeghi to pace the Gator offense. That trio has combined for a .366 average, 15 homers and 73 RBI. On the mound, Jenny Gladding, a junior transfer from national runner-up Arizona, boasts a 10-6 record and a 1.38 ERA, while junior Amanda Moore is 9-2 with a 1.28 ERA.

SUNSHINE STATE HOMECOMING
Four current Rebels are natives of Florida, tying Mississippi and Tennessee with the most Ole Miss players from one state. Junior Andrea Brahs hails from Boynton Beach, sophomore DeDe Justice from Vero Beach, sophomore Megan Kozar from Palm Beach Gardens and junior Desiree Layman from West Palm Beach. Kozar was also a high school teammate of Gator freshman Lindsey Cameron.

HOTTIES
Over the last 19 games, junior shortstop Desiree Layman is hitting .321, second-best on the squad over that stretch, with two homers, four doubles and eight RBI. Layman is also third on the team in batting during SEC play with a .308 average - 58 points higher than for the season overall ... Sophomore centerfielder Brooke Turner turned in her fourth three-hit game of the year in game one of the UT-Martin doubleheader. No player has managed that feat since Amanda Lehotak in the 2000 season ... After a 1-4 start this year, senior righthander Lindsay Price has posted a 7-4 mark since, including a stretch of wins in five straight starts. Among those victories were the first two seven-inning shutouts of her career. Wednesday's 2-1 win at UT-Martin also marked her 13th consecutive complete game, which is a school record ... Freshman designated player Mandy Ott is batting 94 points higher in SEC play than the season overall with a team-best .375 average in league games.

AWARD WINNER
On Thursday, Lindsay Price was chosen among 24 student-athletes, one male and one female from each conference school, as recipients of an SEC $5,000 post-graduate scholarship and as finalists for the 2002-03 H. Boyd McWhorter SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. The McWhorter Award winner earns $10,000 for post-graduate studies. Price was also recently selected, along with Ole Miss tennis player Mira Radu, as a 2003 co-recipient of the Eugenia Conner Memorial Award, which honors the University's outstanding female student-athletes.

ROOKIE SENSATION
Rebecca McIntire continued her spectacular freshman season with last weekend's Auburn series, notching her third multiple-hit game of conference play. The third baseman from Chatsworth, Calif., tallied three hits against the Tigers and is second on the team in batting in SEC games with a .360 average and six RBI. For the year, McIntire is third among Rebels in average at .296 and second in runs driven in with 13. At one point, she ran off a stretch of nine straight games with at least one hit. McIntire is also the top defensive third baseman in the SEC with a .988 fielding percentage.
