PLANT CITY, Fla. - Pacific heated up the bats quickly and held off Ole Miss in an 8-4 softball result Saturday in day three of the Speedline Invitational. The Rebels (7-10) now enter the tournament consolation bracket and play UIC Sunday at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Saturday's matchup saw the Tigers (11-10) score in each of the first three innings, including four runs in the first. A three-run triple by Estee Okumura keyed the opening-frame rally.
Down 5-0, the Rebels pulled within one in the third with a four-run spurt of their own. After leadoff singles by DeDe Justice and Mandy Ott and a walk to Rebecca McIntire, Andrea Brahs put Ole Miss on the board with an RBI-sacrifice fly.
Desiree Layman singled in another run, and Jordan Chitwood doubled home two more to narrow the gap to 5-4. However, the Rebels would get no closer, as they drop to 2-3 in tournament play.
Pacific, who spent the first month of the season ranked in the nation's top 25, tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third, off a Ashlie D'Errico homer, and another score in the fifth.
Jennifer Dacre (4-5) recorded the complete game victory for the Tigers, while UM starter Leslie Day (3-2) lasted only two innings in the loss. Lindsay Price and Dana Brill both saw action in relief for Ole Miss.
