OXFORD, Miss. - Lenny Mayard went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and Blaine Wyninger was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to power Southeastern Louisiana to a 12-3 non-conference win over Ole Miss Tuesday evening, in front of 1,588 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The loss was the Rebels' third straight as Ole Miss dropped to 21-15 on the season. Southeastern improved to 10-22.
The Lions tied a season-high with 19 hits on the night, including seven doubles and home runs from Anthony Garibaldi and Wyninger.
After Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lions scored 12 unanswered runs. Southeastern tied the game at 1-1 in the second on a sac fly by Russell Taylor and took a 2-1 lead in the third on Garibaldi's two-out solo home run. The homer was Garibaldi's ninth of the season.
The Lions then broke the game open in the middle innings, plating three runs in the fourth on a three-run blast by Wyninger, four in the fifth and two in the sixth. The home run by Wyninger was his first of the season.
Freshman right-hander Mark Holliman (3-3) was charged with the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits in four innings.
Freshman left-hander Chad Pendarvis (1-0) pitched a complete game in earning the win. He scattered 11 hits while limiting the Rebels to three runs. He also walked two and struck out three.
Chad Sterbens and Jonathan Swearingen has two hits each for the Rebels.
The Rebels and Lions will conclude their two-game midweek series Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. Ole Miss will then open a three-game Southeastern Conference series against Alabama, Friday night at 6:30 p.m., at Swayze Field.
