Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A red-hot shooting Vanderbilt (15-3, 3-2) team took control of the game defeating Ole Miss, 90-65, on Sunday at Memorial Coliseum. Five Commodores finished in double-figures led by senior Hillary Hager's 21 points and VU made 59.3 percent of the shots from the field to dominate Ole Miss (12-8, 3-3).

"We had so many defensive breakdowns we made it easy for them to score," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "On top of that we did not take very good care of the ball. Credit the Vanderbilt players, they played a good game, but we did not do a very good job of taking care of our business."

Ole Miss jumped out to an early lead at eight-point lead at 19-11 with 13:20 remaining in the first period of action. Vanderbilt went on a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to tie the score at 21.

The two teams traded baskets back and forth for most of the rest of the first half. Ole Miss led 35-34 with 2:17 remaining in the first frame before letting VU close out the half on a 10-0 run for a 44-35 lead.

Vanderbilt scored first to start the second half, but two lay-ups by freshman forward Armintie Price cut the Commodore lead to seven after two minutes of action in the second frame. Vanderbilt scored reeled off nine-straight points to push out to a 16 point lead with 15:42 left in the game.

Ole Miss cut into the VU lead, getting it back to nine points at 61-52 on a three-point basket by sophomore guard Ashley Johnson. That was as close at Ole Miss would get. Vanderbilt scored in all areas of the court, getting points in the paint, from the foul line and from beyond the arc to forge the final score.

Three Lady Rebels scored in double figures led by junior center Amber Watts with 12 points. Senior forward Tywanna Inmon and Price each added 10 points. Junior guard Carletta Brown and senior guard Genice Terry each scored eight points.

Price led the rebounding charge for Ole Miss with nine boards. Watts added five rebounds. Price also grabbed four steals in the game.

Hager led all scorers with 21 points. Ashley Earley scored 17 points for VU. Jenn Hall and Abi Ramsey scored 12 points and Carla Thomas chipped in 10 points for the Commodores. Earley and Ramsey each grabbed five rebounds.

Ole Miss will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 1, when they play host to Kentucky. Game time is set for 2 p.m., in Tad Smith Coliseum.
