BATON ROUGE, La. - Temeka Johnson, playing what could have been her final regular-season home game, had 22 points and seven assists to help No. 15 LSU beat Mississippi 85-68 Thursday night.
Johnson, academically ineligible as a freshman, has not decided whether to petition the NCAA for an extra year. So, on senior night, she took her pregame bow, then went to work.
Johnson, third in the nation in assists, was 5-of-10 from the field and 12-of-15 from the line.
LSU (22-5, 10-3 Southeastern Conference), which clinched a first-round bye in next week's league tournament with Sunday's victory over Mississippi State, has won four of its last five games. Seimone Augustus added 23 points for LSU, Scholanda Hoston had 12, and Doneeka Hodges 10.
Mississippi (15-12, 6-7) is on a four-game skid. Armintie Price led Ole Miss with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Amber Watts scored 16 and Tywanna Inmon had 10.
LSU stretched its second-half lead to 54-44 on a pair of free throws by Hoston with 13:38 remaining. Ole Miss came back on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 56-50 on two free throws by Amber Terrell.
Hodges sank a basket with 14:09 left to put LSU ahead 52-42. The Tigers did not make another basket until Johnson sank one with 8:54 remaining, but free throws helped them to a 55-52 lead.
LSU shot 44 percent and made 29 of 40 free throws. Mississippi shot 34 percent and was 22-29 from the foul line. The Tigers outrebounded Ole Miss 46-37.
The Rebels led for much of the first half, but LSU staged a 19-8 run over the final 7:14 to take a 40-29 lead at the break.
