OXFORD, Miss. - The Rebel softball team was unable to overcome poor fielding and a solid hitting Gator team while failing to get the bats rolling themselves, as Ole Miss (8-21, 3-5 SEC) dropped both games of a doubleheader with No. 16/19 Florida (31-5, 8-3 SEC) on Saturday, 4-1 and 3-0.

"We didn't play softball today," said Ole Miss head coach Candi Letts. "You can't win in this league if you don't come to work hard every day. You can't show up one week and not show up to play with that same intensity the next week or you will get eaten up in the SEC."

The Gators took advantage of solid hitting at the plate and costly mistakes by the Rebels to notch the two wins.

Mary Jane Callahan (7-9) suffered the loss in the first game for the Rebels as she struck out nine batters and walked only one. Callahan gave up four runs on the day, none of them earned as the Rebels committed two errors on the day.

Florida got on the board in the first inning as Jenilee Garner scored on a passed ball to plate the game-winning run. Garner walked to lead off the inning and then stole second. She advanced to third on a single from Melissa Zick, then scored on the passed ball.

Florida added three more runs in the sixth as the Rebels committed both of the errors on the day to give Florida the cushion. Garner reached on an error by shortstop Desiree Layman to lead off the inning, then stole second before Callahan struck out Roussell. Zick then reached on a fielding error by Callahan when she blooped a ball back at her that the pitcher was unable to field cleanly, advancing Garner to third. Mylin Prieto then singled down the left field line to score Garner and move Zick to third on the throw back to the infield. Prieto then stole second. Jenny Gladding singled through the middle in the next at bat to plate Zick and Prieto for the four runs in the game.

Ole Miss scored its only run in the bottom of the sixth as Rebecca McIntire reached home on a bunt single from Britte Hardy. McIntire reached on a walk to lead off the inning before advancing to second when Brittany Warner was thrown out at first on a grounder to the second baseman. McIntire moved to third on a wild pitch, then scored on the Hardy single.

Freshman Stacey Stevens picked up the win for the Gators in the first game as she struck out seven batters and walked one, allowing only two hits and the one run on the day.

Hardy led the Rebels at the plate in the first game, going 1-for-3 and driving in the only run for the Rebels.

In the second game, Gladding (16-3) picked up the win for the Gators as she frustrated the Rebel bats for the better part of the afternoon, striking out 13 batters and walking two while allowing only three hits.

The Gators plated runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings to earn the 3-0 win and secure the series win.

Dana Brill (1-9) suffered the loss for the Rebels as she worked 5.0 innings, striking out five batters and walking one, while allowing two runs, only one of them earned. Tara Willit worked 2.0 innings in relief, striking out no one and allowing one run on two hits.

Hardy, Mandy Ott and Andrea Brahs all went 1-for-3 in the game to lead the Rebels offensively.

Ole Miss and Florida will face off again in the final game of the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
