The 2004 NCAA Division I Women's and Men's Tennis selection announcements will take place on Wednesday on ESPNEWS. The women's announcement will begin at 3:35 p.m., CST followed by the men's announcement at 3:45 CST.
The SEC Champion Rebels (21-4) will be making their 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Team Championships, but are hoping to host one of the 16 regionals to be played at various sites across the country. They have hosted a regional four of the last five years. Ole Miss, currently ranked No. 5 in the nation, advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2003.
"We've had an outstanding season, winning the SEC Championship and finishing the regular season ranked top five in the nation," Rebel head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Because of our successful season and our past experience of hosting big events, I feel our chances of hosting our very good."
The Lady Rebels, who finished the regular season with an 12-11 overall record, hope that their strength of schedule will help them earn another trip to the postseason. They have been to the NCAA Championships seven of the last eight years. Of their 11 losses, eight came against top 25 teams.
"Hopefully our strength of schedule will play a factor in the committee's decision," Lady Rebel head coach Mark Beyers said. "We had several close losses to some top teams that will be in the NCAA Championships. Our four seniors have been model student-athletes and they deserve another chance to play in the NCAA Championships."
The NCAA Regionals will be played May 14-16 at various sites across the country. The women's NCAA Finals takes place May 20-23 in Athens, Ga., and the men's final 16 will be held May 22-25 in Tulsa, Okla.
If you do not get ESPNEWS, the brackets for both the men's and women's championships will be posted on ncaasports.com no later than 5 p.m., CST.
