OXFORD, Miss. - Off the court her nails will be painted, make-up looking just right, and she will be dressed to kill. On the court she plays like an animal out to grab every loose ball and rebound in sight, in addition to playing tough defense. She is Jada Mincy, a sophomore forward on the Lady Rebel basketball team--their Warrior Princess.
"People who don't know I play basketball can never believe it when they find out," said Mincy, who is majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences. "They always think I am too girly to play sports. But then again those who meet me on the court are stunned to find out I wear a dress and heels to class."
Mincy had a solid freshman campaign as she was the third-leading rebounder on the team during 2004-05. She pulled down 5.4 rebounds per game to go along with 2.7 points per contest. Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross is expecting big things out of her rebounding queen this season.
"Jada has had an oustanding summer and fall," said Ross, who is entering her third season at the helm of the Ole Miss program. "She has really stepped up as a leader in the post. I know I would not want to go to battle against her down there. She is really ferocious on the boards."
Whether she is dressing for class or banging for a rebound, the Lady Rebels are happy to have Mincy on their squad.
