AMES, Iowa - Ole Miss senior hurdler Antwon Hicks continues to dominate the high hurdles during the 2005 indoor track and field season as he posted his fifth-straight win on the season. Hicks clocked in at 7.65, which tied a season's best mark, to finish first at the 2005 ISU Classic.
"Antwon has been working really hard to keep improving," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "He ran a nice time in the preliminaries and then followed that up with an outstanding time in the finals."
Fellow senior Brandon Atkinson set a new Ole Miss record in the triple jump with his winning leap of 53-10.25. Atkinson also earned an automatic qualification for the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships with his winning leap.
"Brandon had a really big weekend," said Walker. "We have always known he was capable of a big jump like this. He just needs to keep this momentum and build on it."
Senior Shantel Glass placed fourth in the long jump with his leap of 24-7.75. Junior Edward McCall was seventh in the long jump with his mark of 24-6.5.
Junior Marquita Aldridge led the Rebel women with her fifth-place finish in the women's long jump. Aldridge turned in a mark of 19-11.5 in the event. Fellow senior Octavia Carter tied a season's best mark in the 60-meter hurdles with her time of 8.60, which left her in seventh place.
Freshman Alexis McField finished eighth in the triple jump with her mark of 40-2.25, while the Rebel women's 4x400-meter relay team also finished eighth with their time of 3:45.61.
Ole Miss will take a weekend off in preparation for the 2005 SEC Indoor Championships, which will be held Feb. 25-27 in Fayetteville, Ark.
