Rebel Netters Continue To Win, Defeat Northwestern 6-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The sixth-ranked men's tennis team continued its winning ways on Tuesday, defeating the 40th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats 6-1 on the road. The win was the Rebels' fourth-straight win and moved the team to 4-0 on the season.
Northwestern (5-3) suffered its third loss of the season at the hands of Ole Miss.
The Rebels captured the doubles point with wins at the one and three spots to put Ole Miss up 1-0 in the early portion of the match. The duo of Gard and Claesson defeated the Wildcat's Perring and Tempke 8-6 at the top spot, while the Rebels' Klaeson and DiCesare downed the Northwestern's Christian and Lock 8-6. The pairing of Hanus and Schaechterle for Northwestern claimed the second spot in doubles with a 9-8 (12) win over Ole Miss' Berg and Tveit in a match that took 80 minutes to complete.
In singles play, the Rebels continued to pound away at the Wildcats, claiming the point with wins at every position except the third spot.
Catalin Gard and Tommy Hanus played in the most entertaining match of the night as the pair battled back and forth for three sets before Gard claimed the win 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-5.
Eric Claesson claimed the first set of his match in a tie-break before pushing to a win at the number two spot when he claimed the second set. Claesson won 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Northwestern claimed its only point of the match with a win at the number three position. The Wildcats' Willy Lock took the Rebels' Bram ten Berg to three sets before claiming the win 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Ole Miss continued to win the rest of the matches on the night as Irling Tveit took the number four spot win over Adam Schaechterle 7-5, 7-6. Jakob Klaeson took down Northwestern's Matt Christian 6-1, 6-4 and Pablo DiCesare rounded out the match with a 6-3, 64 win over Jamie Friedland.
Ole Miss will return to action at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor on Thursday. The tournament will continue through Sunday. The Rebels return to action at home on February 26 against Middle Tennessee.
