TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up the third and final round of the Seminole Intercollegiate Tuesday with an eighth-place finish at the Golden Eagle Country Club.
The Rebels fired a third-round 299 to finish at 896 for the tournament (299-298-299).
"We were a little disappointed in our finish," said Ole Miss head coach Ernest Ross. "Jordan Dempsey has carried us all year long, and this was his first non-top-10 finish of the year. We just did not provide enough support for him. Overall, we did not get a strong enough effort out of the whole team to carry us much higher."
Dempsey, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., posted an 11th-place finish with three-day scores of 73-71-74--218 (2-over par). The finish marked the first time in the 2004-05 season Dempsey has not been one of the top ten finishers in a tournament.
Coastal Carolina claimed the victory in the 12-team invitational. Vanderbilt, the only other SEC team represented, finished in second. Central Florida placed third, followed by North Carolina, Virginia, Florida State, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, East Tennessee State, N.C. State, North Florida and College of Charleston.
Sophomore Brice Bailey carded the best rounds of his career in his second career tournament with a first-round 76, second-round 73 and third-round 75 for a 224 total and a 26th-place finish.
"I was really pleased with the play of Brice in his second college tournament," Ross said.
Other Ole Miss individuals included sophomore Kyle Ellis (76-75-74--225), senior Lucas Boyd (74-79-76--229) and senior Ryan Michals (76-79-79--234).
The Rebels' return to the course for their next tournament this weekend for the Conrad Rehling Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala., March 11-13.
