AUBURN, Ala. - The Ole Miss men's golf team finished fourth at the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate at the Auburn University Club after firing their second straight round of 297 in Sunday's final round.
The Auburn Tigers took the overall title with a three-under-par 861. Memphis (885), Charlotte (890), Ole Miss (892) and UAB (893) rounded out the top five.
The finish marked Ole Miss' seventh top-five finish out of nine tournaments this season.
"We played a good tournament this weekend, with some windy conditions," said head coach Ernest Ross. "Now we start preparing for the SEC Championships."
Ian Rochester of Memphis took home medalist honors with a five-under 211 after a 65 in Friday's opening round.
Senior Jordan Dempsey carded a two-over 74 on Sunday to finish at even par for the tournament (72-70-74--216) and tied for third, marking his seventh top-five finish this season. He will enter the SEC Championships with the lowest stroke average in the SEC.
"Jordan Dempsey has led us all year long. He's a good golfer and we will depend on him next weekend," Ross said.
Senior Lucas Boyd finished tied for 12th at 72-73-76--221, his second-best tournament place for his career. He finished seventh at the All-South Collegiate earlier this spring.
Sophomore Kyle Ellis (76-76-74--226) carded a two-over 74 on Sunday to tie for 27th for the tournament. Sophomore Brice Bailey scored a 78-78-76--232 score. Sophomore Callum Macaulay fired the Rebels' low round on Sunday, a 73, to improve to a tie for 49th after rounds of 80 and 82 on the first two days.
The Rebels will take to the course again next weekend in search of a solid showing at the SEC Championships in Sea Island, Ga. Ole Miss will use the same lineup from this Billy Hitchcock tournament to try and improve from last year's 12th-place finish.
