OXFORD, Miss. - Former Ole Miss men's tennis player Wilson Montjoy, 95, of Jackson, Miss., will be a special guest of the Rebels for Saturday's opening round match of the NCAA Championships.
Montjoy, who lettered in 1930 and 1931 for the Rebels, will be recognized between the doubles and singles matches. He was captain of the team in 1931, which included Sedgie Griffith, Dean Faulkner, John Faulkner and Ira Boswell.
"Mr. Montjoy is a young 95," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Although he doesn't play much tennis these days, I understand he still plays golf daily. Our team is very excited about the NCAA Regional, and it makes it even more special to have Mr. Montjoy as our guest.
"Our former letterwinners laid the groundwork for the outstanding program we have today. It is an honor to have our past players return, especially one from the early days of Ole Miss Tennis."
Ole Miss will face Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. Saturday, while Auburn and Middle Tennessee kick off the day at 11 a.m. The winners will meet in the final Sunday at 1 p.m.
