TUCSON, Ariz. - Ole Miss junior outfielder Brian Pettway was named one of three Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week, by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Monday.
In five games last week, Pettway went 8-for-16 with five home runs and 12 RBI, and finished the week having homered in four consecutive games. He went 2-for-2 with two home runs and a career-high six RBI in Ole Miss' 10-2 win over Murray State last Wednesday at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, before hitting a home run in each of Ole Miss' three games at Auburn this past weekend.
"Brian had a phenomenal week, and he's very deserving to be named one of three Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week," said Ole Miss Head Coach Mike Bianco. "This is a great honor, and we're certainly very proud of Brian.
"Brian's had an outstanding season from the very start and hasn't slowed down."
Pettway has started all 50 games for the Rebels this season, and is hitting .421 with 16 home runs and 56 RBI. He has also recorded 18 doubles and has a hit in 45-of-50 games.
Ole Miss is 35-15 overall, including 13-11 in the SEC. The Rebels are in third place in the SEC Western Division, one-game behind co-leaders Alabama and LSU.
The Rebels are ranked No. 19 in this week's Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Top 25, No. 22 by Baseball America and No. 25 by Collegiate Baseball.
Also earning Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors were second baseman J.R. Kyes of Illinois and pitcher Ryan Fecteau of Saint Anslem. Fecteau earned the honor after throwing a nine-inning no-hitter and striking out 11 for the Hawks in a 1-0 win over American International.
