OXFORD, Miss. -- The 2005 NCAA Oxford Super Regional game between the Texas Longhorns and the Ole Miss Rebels has been suspended at 9:25 p.m. The game was halted at 7:04 p.m., with the Longhorns leading 2-0 after three innings. Game one will resume Sunday at Noon, with game two to follow at its regularly scheduled time of 5 p.m.
Texas took advantage of two lead off walks to Nick Peoples and Drew Stubbs to start the game. Seth Johnston then advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and Chance Wheeless hit a bloop single over third to score both runners and give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead.
Junior right-hander Mark Holliman settled down after the first inning, recording three strikeouts to break the Ole Miss single-season record of 118 set by Jamey Price in 1995. Holliman entered tonight needing one strikeout to tie Price's mark.
Holliman now has 281 strikeouts for his career to move him within one of the school career mark of 282 set by Jeff Calhoun (1977-1980).
Tonight's game is the series opener between the two teams, with the series winner advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
