Box Score

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Senior Dana Brill and junior Cathie Hacker combined to give up one run, but it was not enough as the Ole Miss softball team (2-4) fell 1-0 to Missouri State on the first day of the FAU Dunkin' Donuts Classic on Friday afternoon.

All the scoring in the game came on one swing of the bat in the first inning. After the leadoff batter struck out, Missouri State's Samantha Fleeman hit a blast to center field to give the Bears a 1-0 lead in their first game of the season.

Brill (1-1) and Hacker shut down the Bears (1-0) the rest of the way. Brill, the starter, pitched three innings and gave up two hits and the one run, with one strikeout. Hacker relieved her and allowed just one hit in four innings and stuck out three Bears.

Ole Miss managed five hits in the game, including a game-high two by freshman second baseman Lisa Conchos, but the Rebels struggled to move runners into scoring position.

The designated home team Rebels made a final rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when Vanessa Gibbs walked and Stacy McCommon reached on an error by the shortstop, but Brittany Warner popped up to the shortstop for the final out of the game.

Missouri State's Shannan Buslepp (1-0) pitched a strong game, allowing five hits in the complete-game shutout performance.

For the game, Ole Miss out-hit Missouri State 5-3, while each team made two errors in the field.
