Armintie Price Tabbed First Team All-SEC By League Coaches

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southeastern Conference announced its 2006 women's basketball postseason awards Tuesday, highlighted by LSU's Seimone Augustus being named Player of the Year, Tennessee's Candace Parker as the Freshman of the Year and Kentucky's Mickie DeMoss being named Coach of the Year. Ole Miss junior Armintie Price, earned first team All-SEC honors along with Augustus and Parker.

First-team and second-team All-SEC honorees, All-Freshman team, along with Player, Coach and Freshman, Defensive Player, 6th Woman and Scholar-Athlete of the Year were chosen by the league's 12 coaches.

"We are extremely proud of Armintie," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "She has played very well this season, despite being the primary focus of each team we play. She plays so hard each and every game and is an inspiration for her teammates."

Augustus and Sylvia Fowles of LSU and Tasha Humphrey and Sherill Baker of Georgia were all unanimous selections to the All-SEC First team. Also joining Price on the prestigious team were Parker, Dalila Esha of Florida, Shanna Zolman of Tennessee and Dee Davis of Vanderbilt.

The second team was composed of: Samantha Mahoney of Kentucky, Cori Chamber of Georgia, Scholanda Hoston of LSU, Sha Brooks of Florida, Caroline Williams of Vanderbilt, Navonda Moore of Alabama, Melanie Johnson of South Carolina, Marita Payne of Auburn and Alexis Hornbuckle of Tennessee.

"This is a great honor," said Price, who currently sits in 11th place on the Ole Miss all-time scoring chart with 1,400 points. "To have my name listed next to those other players is a special feeling because I know they are some of the best players in women's college basketball."

Price earned first team honors for the second-straight season. She leads Ole Miss in scoring (16.8), rebounding (10.1), assists (3.1) and steals (3.5) and has posted 15 double-doubles on the season. She became the eighth player in Lady Rebel history to earn the honor two times in a career. Price earned second team honors as a freshman.

"I am very appreciative of my teammates," added Price. "They have gone out and worked hard every day by my side, helping me to become the player I am today. This is really an honor for our team."

Baker was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year and Liz Sherwood of Vanderbilt earned Sixth Woman of the Year honors.

Florida's Sarah Lowe was named the third annual SEC Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

DeMoss was named SEC Coach of the Year in her third season as head coach of the Wildcats. This season Kentucky finished the regular season with a 20-7 overall record and a perfect 9-5 conference record. DeMoss guided UK to a fourth place finish in the conference standings, with the Wildcats earning a first round bye at the 2006 SEC Tournament.

The 2006 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament begins Thursday, March 2 and runs through Sunday, March 5 in North Little Rock, Ark.. FSN South will televise all games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday while ESPN2 will broadcast the championship game at 5 p.m. CT.

Ole Miss, as the eighth seed, will face-off against ninth seeded Arkansas at Noon CT, on Thursday. The winner between the Lady Rebels and Lady Razorbacks will take on top seeded LSU Lady Tigers at Noon. CT, on Friday.
