OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss (12-8, 1-2) got the day off to a good start, but couldn't sustain the momentum as the Rebels split a doubleheader with visiting Vanderbilt (13-7, 2-1 SEC), taking the first game 5-1 before dropping the second game to the Commodores 5-0.

The win in the first game evened the series, but the loss in the second gave the weekend series to Vanderbilt as both teams opened Southeastern Conference play.

Cody Satterwhite (4-0) picked up the win in game one as he worked a season-long 7.0 innings, giving up only one run on seven hits while striking out four and walking three.

Lance Lynn (1-2) suffered the loss in the second game as he worked 5.1 innings, giving up five runs on nine hits as he struck out five and walked two.

Zack Cozart led the Rebels on the day as he went 1-for-4 in the first game with a two-run home run and a run scored. Justin Henry went 2-for-4 in the first game with an RBI and a run scored.

"We just didn't show up offensively in the second game," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "We only had six hits in the first game, but we bunch them together in one inning. That is what you have to when you are struggling offensively. You have to give credit to Crowell, but we must perform better offensively."

Ole Miss came out hot in the first game, swinging the bats well and taking an early lead on the Commodores. The Rebels used back-to-back doubles in the third inning to get on the board. Jon-Jon Hancock reached as he was hit by a pitch and then moved to second on a fielding error at first in a pickoff attempt. Hancock then scored on a double from Henry. Henry then scored two batters later when C.J. Ketchum doubled and the Rebels took a 2-0 lead. Cozart capped the inning with a two run home run to left field and Ole Miss led 4-0.

Vanderbilt answered in the top of the fourth, scoring a single run, but the Rebels answered with another run in the bottom half of the inning for the final margin of victory as Mark Wright scored on a single to left center from Hancock.

The second game took a stark contrast to the first as the offense went Vanderbilt's way. The Commodores used a four-run fourth inning, capped by a two-run home run from Pedro Alvarez, to push ahead of the Rebels 4-0. Vanderbilt would add a fifth run in the sixth inning for the final edge.

Ole Miss was held hitless until a single from Chris Coghlan in the eighth broke up the no-hitter and a double down the right field line from Justin Brashear in the ninth added the second hit of the night for the Rebels.

Matt Buschman (2-2) went the distance for Vanderbilt in the first game as he was tagged with the loss. Buschman gave up five runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Cody Crowell (2-0) picked up the win in the second game of the day as he also went the distance, shutting out the Rebels as he gave up only two hits, walked one and struck out five to seal the series for the Commodores.

Ole Miss returns to action on Tuesday, hitting the road for a game with the Memphis Tigers at AutoZone Park. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
