OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team handed out its team awards and honored its three seniors at the 2005-06 Lady Rebel Basketball Athletic Banquet Friday, April 21, at the Indoor Practice Facility Banquet Room.

Academic awards kicked off the ceremony as senior forward Ellen Buchanan was awarded the Most Improved Grade Point Average Award and freshman forward Brandi Tipton was presented the Highest Grade Point Average Award.

Senior guard Ashley Johnson picked up a certificate for being Ole Miss' honoree on the 2006 SEC Good Works Team. Johnson, along with junior guard Armintie Price also accepted the CHAMPS cup which was presented to the Lady Rebel basketball team earlier in the season for its work in the community.

Senior guard LaTanya Jones was the winner of the Lady Rebel Iron Award for her dedication to basketball during the off season training program, while Johnson was the recipient of the Helping Hand Award for her commitment to community service and campus involvement. It was Johnson's second-consecutive season to win the award.

Sophomore forward Carla Bartee was awarded the Eleanor Shaw Super Sub Award for her impact on the court from her reserve role. Bartee averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 rebounds off-the-bench, while knocking down 51 three-point baskets on the season. The Unsung Hero Award was delivered to freshman center Shawn Goff, who was honored for being a quiet contributor who got the job done on the court without a lot of fanfare or attention off it.

Junior guard Armintie Price was given the Defensive Stopper Award. The Defensive Stopper Award was given to the player that finished plays on the defensive end of the court. Price led the team and ranked second in the Southeastern Conference in steals with 104 on the season.

Price also won the Most Valuable Player Award for the third-straight season. The 5-9 Blue Mountain, native, led the team in scoring (17.7), rebounding (9.6), steals (3.4) and assists (3.5). She was named to the SEC First Team by the league coaches and the Associated Press, while taking home SEC Player of the Week honors twice during the season. Price was also named WBCA/Kodak Honorable Mention All-America for her efforts.

Buchanan and sophomore forward Jada Mincy were both presented with the Van Chancellor Coaches. The award was given to the player(s) who possessed the best attitude, work ethic, cooperation, unselfishness and enthusiasm.

The last award of the evening was handed down to Johnson, as she was the 2006 Lady Rebel Award winner presented by the Lady Rebel Roundballers. The Lady Rebel Award is given to the player that best exemplifies the Lady Rebel experience, the player that combines excellence in academics, athletics and community service.

After the individual awards were handed out, the three seniors, Buchanan, Johnson and Jones were then honored with their senior awards and a season-highlight video presentation was given.

The 2005-06 Lady Rebel squad posted 17 wins on the season, including an 5-9 mark in SEC play. They made their third-straight postseason appearance, advancing to the Round of 16 in the WNIT before falling at Pittsburgh, 85-76. Ole Miss will lose the services of three seniors, but nine underclassmen along with five incoming freshman will suit up in the Red and Blue next season.
