OXFORD, Miss. - Join the Ole Miss men's tennis team at the Downtown Grill Wednesday from 7-8 p.m., for the 2006 NCAA Men's Tennis Selection Show. The field of 64 and the host sites for the first and second rounds will be announced on ESPNEWS beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Come celebrate another championship season with the Rebels and enjoy hors d'oeuvres compliments of the Downtown Grill.
"We feel our chances are good for the University and Oxford to be selected as one of the regional sites," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "We've hosted six of the last seven years, and the visiting team and fans always feel that this is one of the best locations in the country.
"Because of the strength of the top 20 teams in the nation, it is not as clear as it has been in past years. Our tradition of hosting may very well be the determining factor in the committee's decision."
Ole Miss captured its fifth straight SEC Western Division Championship this season and finished second in the overall standings. They advanced to the SEC Tournament final for the second time in three years and head into the NCAA Championships at 20-5.
The Rebels are led by All-SEC players Erling Tveit, Eric Claesson, Bram ten Berge and Juan Pablo Di Cesare, who have combined to help lead the Rebels to their eighth 20-win campaign. ten Berge was also named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for boasting a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the Classics.
Ole Miss is expected to earn its 15th NCAA berth. The Rebels advanced to the Final Four in 2005 for the fourth time in the history of the program.
"We would like to thank the Downtown Grill for hosting this exciting event, and would like to encourage all of our fans to come and congratulate the 2006 SEC West Champions and join us for the beginning of the NCAA Championships," Chadwick added.
