Rebel Golfer Takes Home Third At Scenic City

9/12/2006 | Men's Golf

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. Ole Miss senior golfer Callum Macaulay took home third place in the Scenic City Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Honors Course, to lead the Rebels to a sixth place finish.

Macaulay carded a three under 69 in the first round and followed with a 71 to lead the field after two rounds.   A final round 80 left him at 220 and three shots back of UAB’s Garrett Osborn, who totaled a 217 to garner medalist honors. Middle Tennessee’s Rick Cochran came in second at 219.

The third-place showing marked the best finish for Macaulay as a Rebel. His previous best was a fifth place finish at the Mason Rudolph Championships in the fall of 2004.

In the team standings, UNC-Charlotte won the tournament with a 294-296-300-- 890.  Middle Tennessee came in second at 285-306-308899, while Mississippi State ended up third with a 300-295-306901.  The Rebels shot 294-305-313912 to earn the top 10 finish.

“We are very disappointed in our performance today,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “We got off to a bad start and hung our heads.  We didn’t play with any confidence.  I would like to congratulate Callum on his third place finish.  We will work to get better before our next tournament.”

See the results below for a complete listing of the team standings and Ole Miss’ individual results.

The Rebels will return to the links Oct. 1-3 at the Memphis Intercollegiate in Memphis, Tenn.
