2/21/2007 | Men's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. After a 2-1 record at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor this past weekend, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team remained at No. 4 in this week’s ITA Fila National Rankings released Wednesday.

The Rebels are fourth behind Georgia, Ohio State and Virginia.  Following Ole Miss at No. 4 is Baylor, UCLA, Illinois, Pepperdine, Notre Dame and Florida State.

Ole Miss defeated then No. 16 Boise State in the first round of the National Team Indoor and also earned a win over then No. 10 Pepperdine on the last day to finish tied for fifth. The Rebels’ only loss on the season was a 4-3 decision to No. 3 Virginia in the quarterfinals of the team indoor.

The new individual rankings also came out, and the Rebels boast two in the top 30.  Junior All-American Erling Tveit is back up to No. 12 with a 6-2 record at No. 1 singles.  His only losses at No. 1 are against the No. 4 and 15 ranked players in the nation, while owning a win over the No. 7 player.

Fellow junior Robbye Poole jumped up from No. 79 to No. 26 in the nation.  Poole went undefeated in singles at the National Team Indoor and leads the team with a 22-6 overall record.

Senior All-American Eric Claesson is back in the rankings at No. 61 after taking the fall off.  Claesson clinched the win over Pepperdine last Sunday.

In doubles, Jakob Klaeson and Chris Rea are ranked No. 20.

The Rebels return to action Wednesday, Feb. 28 when they host Memphis at 2 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
